In short

  • This website sets no cookies, does not count visitors and uses no analytics or advertising services.
  • It loads nothing from other servers: fonts, pictures and videos are on our own web space.
  • Whatever you send us through the forms or by email, we use only to reply, to prepare your stay and to rent out equipment.

Who is responsible

Hosting and server logs

The website is hosted on web space of IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Each time a page is requested, the server processes what it technically needs to deliver it: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, your browser and operating system, and the page you came from. IONOS keeps these details in logs to run the server securely and deletes them according to its own schedule.

IONOS processes this data on our behalf. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Inquiry, contact and GoPro rental agreement

When you send one of the forms, your details go to a small program on our web space. It turns them into an email to contact@sha-mar.com and sends it through the IONOS mail server. There is no database; afterwards the email sits in our mailbox.

  • The email contains your name, email address and everything you enter or choose in the form – for an inquiry, for example, your dates, room, diving, transfer and requests; for the rental agreement the rental period, start and return, the handover checklist, the place and your typed name as signature – plus the language, the page you send it from, the date and time, and your IP address.
  • The IP address is in the email so that we can spot misuse. To stop anyone from sending the form over and over, the server also keeps a small file. It holds not your IP address but a code calculated from it, and the times of your requests in the last hour.
  • We need your name and email address to be able to reply, and for the rental agreement also the period, the dates and your signature. Everything else is optional. We do not ask for your passport or ID number online – we note it at handover.

What for: We use your details to answer your inquiry, to prepare a stay and to conclude a rental agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The IP address and the file protect the form from misuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

To the Maldives: We are based in the Maldives and read your message there. There is no EU adequacy decision for the Maldives. The transfer is necessary for us to answer your inquiry (Art. 49(1)(b) GDPR).

How long: We keep inquiries and messages for as long as we need them to reply and for any booking that follows, and booking records for as long as statutory retention periods require. We keep a rental agreement until the equipment is back and the deposit is settled, and after that only as long as such periods require. Then we delete them.

Email and phone

If you email us directly or call, we use your details in the same way: to reply and to prepare your stay. Please do not send card numbers or other sensitive data by unencrypted email.

Shamar Club

We only add people to the Shamar Club who ask for it: by ticking the box in the contact form or by sending us an email saying “Shamar Club”. We then write to you a few times a year about offers and events. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time – a short email is enough, and we take you off the list.

What your browser stores

This website sets no cookies. It does keep two things in your browser’s storage, and neither leaves your device:

  • When you switch between EN and DE at the top, your browser remembers the choice (localStorage, entry “shamar-lang”), so the next page opens in your language straight away.
  • If you switch language with a half-filled form, your browser carries what you typed over to the other page (sessionStorage). There it is taken over and deleted; anything older than 30 minutes is discarded. At the latest it is gone when you close the tab.

Both only serve to show you the language you chose and what you typed. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time what data we hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted or its use restricted. On request you get a copy in a common format, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw a consent at any time. Just write to contact@sha-mar.com.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example in the EU country where you live.

Changes

If anything changes on the website or in how we work, we update this notice. The version published here is the one that applies.
