Shamar Guesthouse is a sanctuary where time is forgotten, the noise of everyday life fades away, and the Indian Ocean welcomes you with its gentle breath. As a unique retreat on Maamigili, we are located right by the sea—where the waves tell their stories and the morning sun turns the water into liquid gold. At Shamar Guesthouse & Dive, you reside nestled near green gardens, surrounded by tropical nature and the profound feeling of finally having arrived.
Experience the Soul of the Island If you wish to feel the true spirit of the island, a short walk takes you to the nearby village. Here, you will find small shops, cozy restaurants, and a medical center. But above all, you will meet people who welcome you with honest smiles and the warm rhythm of island life.
A Diver’s Paradise As the only 5★ PADI® certified dive center on the island, we take you into a world that seems almost too beautiful to be real. Just minutes separate you from the gentle giants of the sea: the whale sharks gliding majestically past you. A little further out, manta rays hover like living wings of light. Amidst it all unfolds the vibrant color play of an ocean that turns every dive into an encounter with the wonders of nature.
Authentic Taste & Living On Maamigili, you live amongst the locals—this is no artificial resort, but a genuine island experience. In our restaurant, Maldivian delicacies await you, tasting of the sea, exotic spices, and heartfelt tradition. If you dare, we can make it “very spicy,” too. Of course, we also cater to familiar European tastes.
Nature & Surroundings In recent years, the island has evolved, and new homes are being built around us. Yet, Shamar remains a place where you can still feel the original island vibe: the greenery of the gardens, the gentle vastness of the ocean, and those moments where you simply forget time and let your soul unwind.
Our Animal Companions Due to our closeness to nature, you share Shamar with a few animal roommates. Our cat occasionally roams the garden, birds greet the new day early in the morning, and sometimes you’ll spot a gecko curiously moving along the walls. They are a natural part of life on Maamigili.
Please let us know if you are sensitive to animals or have allergies—we want to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
